There are millions dogs given up to animal shelters annually with almost 2 million of them being euthanized. We are not talking about sick, elderly dogs being put to sleep after many happy years as a loving companion…..this is in reference to almost 2 million dogs that were once part of a family unit but were discarded for a variety of reasons, mostly because of unwanted behaviors. Our view is most of these dogs would never have become unwanted if the dogs had proper training and the owners were informed and educated about breed tendencies as well as responsible dog ownership prior to buying one. In addition, many times we can curb some of the unwanted dog problems if people recognize where the dogs came from, (i.e. responsible breeders versus puppy mills.)
Owning a dog now in the 21st century is a lot different than it was only 30 yeas ago. More people have dogs, urban areas are more congested and there are laws and local ordinances people aren’t familiar with as well. Uninformed folks are left up to themselves to try to figure this all out on their own often with little or no guidance or awareness, and often times motivated by excitement and emotion.
We hope to be able to motivate first time dog owners as well as individuals who have had dogs in the past, to meet with us in our 2 stage “human-dog awareness and ownership program” which outlines dog ownership responsibilities, breed tendencies as well as demonstrations with live trained and untrained dogs. This will be a dog owner’s, or potential dog owner’s first step in the right direction...... a direction that should go a long way toward a loving companionship for many years.
We believe informing dog buyers and teaching proper dog handling techniques is one way we are doing our part to help eliminate the unnecessary destruction of happy, healthy dogs. Assisting people before and after they buy a dog is only one thing we can do to preserve a long happy life for our 4 legged friends.
We try to go even further by continuously adopting dogs and properly socialize them, train them to Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification, and then finding a loving family for them. But that’s still not enough…….we also donate our skills to area shelters, private pet related business, and non-profit groups, in an effort to promote awareness and education.
WHETHER WE ARE SUCCESSFUL
IN SAVING ONE DOG OR MANY,
WE WILL REMAIN STEADFAST AND FOCUSED
ON OUR MISSION TOWARD
TRYING TO DO OUR PART TO HELP.
